Vacation Day 1

After our eventful start our first vacation day went well. Following breakfast at McDonalds we headed north. The kids were watching a movie and Bill and I got some uninterrupted conversation time. We arrived at our hotel around 1:00 and found out the web site is incorrect and check in is not until 3:00. Our lucky day however, our rooms were ready and they allowed us to check in. After hauling two carts up to our room (really are we only here for 4 days??) I got us unpacked and settled into "home." We decide to head out further north and visit Gooseberry Falls and then stop for dinner at the infamous Betty's Pies. We enjoyed a beautiful hike and the kids really enjoyed playing in the water. The falls were very low given the hot weather and lack of rain.

Dinner at Betty's was good but we learned lunch is a better time to stop there. By dinner time the pie selection is pretty low. We returned to our hotel, swam, enjoyed s'mores by the fire overlooking Lake Superior and collapsed into bed, tired but relaxed after a good first day of vacation.
